What is AUHack?

AUHack is one of Denmark’s largest hackathons for students. Over a 36-hour period from October 25th to 27th, students interested in IT will meet, form groups and work intensively to create awesome prototypes and concepts. Whether you like to concept develop, design or code, or if you’re just into IT – this is for you.

Ideate, build, play, hack, share, learn and have fun! The goal for the weekend is to come up with new ideas, play with technology and make cool stuff. It is not about creating finished products, but an opportunity to share your ideas with different people, build inspiring hacks, learn from our mentors and just have fun.

Our goal with the hackathon is to bring creative minds and different skill sets together. We want to see you form new ideas and to see what having fun and playing with technology results in through your presentations and demos at the end of the hackathon. So if you feel up for the challenge and are interested in IT, bring your skill set to the event and put it in play working on something cool.

FAQ

General

I cannot code. Can I attend anyway?

Sure, you should definitely attend! Whether you have written lots of code or just have a creative soul, this hackathon needs you! In true hackathon spirit all students are very friendly and willing to help each other out.

Seriously, is it free?!

Yes, we’re not kidding you. Thanks to our sponsors we will provide free food, swag, snacks and drinks at the hackathon. Plus, there will be mentors, workshops and judges only for the sake of YOU.

What can I win?

You have the fantastic opportunity to learn new stuff, try out your skills and make new friends. Isn't that just great? Everyone will be a winner!... Okay, we will also have some awesome prizes.

Hacking!

Can I build on my hack before the event?

No. That's not fair. You can come up with ideas, but not build them. You are of course allowed to use libraries, frameworks and templates for your hacks.

What do people usually build?

AUHack has been home to a wide variety of projects, from amazing hardware projects to the coolest VR Games and the most useful services and apps.

What hardware will be available to hack on?

We always have a wide spectrum of hardware available, provided by the different labs at Aarhus University, as well as by our sponsors. A detailed list will be available as we get closer to the event!

How do I get the hardware?

We have the pleasure of being able to use all of the hardware from chomskylab.dk! The way this works is:
1. You make an account on the website (in the "AU-ID" field put EXTXXXXXX where the Xs are random numbers if you are not from here),
2. Browse the website and find the hardware that you want to use,
3. Go to the nice LabTools people near the info stand and tell them the hardware that you would like to use,
4. Wait a bit while they go and get the hardware, and
5. Use the hardware for your awesome hack!
You will most likely also need some wires and such - just ask for those as well.

When hacking ends you will have to take everything apart again and return it to the LabTools people. See the schedule for when you have to do this.

Application

Do I need to have a team?

No. You are more than welcome to make a team before the hackathon, but loads of people come without a team. We will help everyone find a team Friday night. We allow groups of 3-5 persons, but recommend groups of 4.

How can I apply?

Sign-ups for this year's AUHack has closed.

Can I attend?

You might think that a hackathon is for programmers only, but that’s not true. Technology and code is one thing – creative minds, bright insights and strategic eyes are another. So, as long as you are a student above 18 years old, you are more than welcome. Actually, we believe that the more different people we are, the better.

Logistics

What do I need to bring?

A laptop, cellphone and chargers, as well as a well-rested mind. If you want to hack on hardware, you might need to bring it yourself. What you won't need to bring is a pre-determined team, an idea for a hack, nor food and drinks. Also, there is absolutely no reason to bring a bad mood.

When is it?

AUHack will start in the evening of Friday at 13:00 and end Sunday at 15:30. All work eligible for prizes must be worked on and completed during this period of time and can't be prepared from home.

Can I sleep at the AUHack venue?

Currently, we will not be offering the opportunity to sleep at AUHack 2024.

How do I get there?

Please take a look at auhack.org/travel, where we have written down some options for you.
The address is:
Finlandsgade 21, 8200 Aarhus N

Will there be parking available?

The streets around the venue should provide suitable parking for all participants. Additionally there is a parking lot near the venue.
